Tracking stolen lighters around the world...

English Spanish German French

Latitude

The angular distance north or south of the earth's equator, measured in degrees along a meridian, as on a map or globe.

Longitude

Angular distance on the earth's surface, measured east or west from the prime meridian at Greenwich, England, to the meridian passing through a position, expressed in degrees (or hours), minutes, and seconds.

Meridian

An imaginary great circle on the earth's surface passing through the North and South geographic poles. All points on the same meridian have the same longitude.

Owner

Someone who is currently holding one of the lighters.

Lighter

A cigarette lighter, that has a unique id somewhere on it. Currently I am using Swan refillable lighters, and I'm covering a laser printed label with heat shrink. See some pictures.

Stolen

What happens when someone takes someone elses lighter. So if someone lends you their lighter to spark up with, and you don't return it - thats a steal, not a give. Or if you "just put it in my pocket without thinking, mate" thats called stealing too.

Address

Where the lighter is currently in the world. Your street address is resolved to a latitude and longitude; and these are then used to draw a map. So your address is only depicted with an image - making it impossible for abusers of this site to send you junk mail. I still keep your address, which means that if in the future I need to re-resolve your address I can do it, and also if you happen to come across more than 1 lighter, you don't have to type it all in again.
